family history research

  • Research anywhere in the UK

  • Finding ancestors - online research and visiting records offices and libraries

  • Using sites such as Ancestry, Findmypast, FamilySearch, The Genealogist, MyHeritage

  • Verify family trees already undertaken by my clients, by continuing where they left off using their own evidence, research and documents collated so far

  • Following family ‘myths’ and tales passed down, to find evidence to validate whether true or fictional

  • On-line tutorial sessions on how to use Ancestry, Findmypast, etc including guidance and advice on how to self serve and investigate your family history while I look into the more challenging areas on your behalf.

Gift CERTIFICATES

Help connect someone with their past by giving them a gift certificate up to any value (the relevant sum is paid for in full in advance). Certificates are personalised and printed on a high-quality card. They may be redeemed against any of my services and are valid for twelve months.  The finished product doesn't need to be complete at the point of gifting, and as family history research can take weeks, are ideal to give as a last-minute present.

Gift Certificates make a perfect choice for an ideal present for birthdays or Christmas or for special family occasions such as weddings, christenings, or anniversaries.  I can post the certificate directly to you or to the recipient.  They come in an attractive presentation envelope.

pricing structure

I offer a range of packages at a fixed price to cater to individual requirements and budgets, taking your family tree back to at least the early 19th century.  Bespoke packages and ad-hoc hourly rate commissions are also available and would be quoted individually once your full requirements are understood. See my Packages for more information.

Hourly rates include:

  • Research and preparation work using the internet and public sources

  • Preparation to undertake research off-site such as libraries, archives

  • Time spent in archives examining documents and specific sources agreed with you

  • Time spent examining specific documents that I believe will provide information to assist with the family history story

  • Construction of family trees and research reports

I provide a one-hour free consultation which includes initial discussions to gather as much information as possible including research already carried out and to understand what your requirements are.

additional costs

Additional Costs not included in hourly rates, and will be estimated upfront include :

  • Travel costs (0.45p per mile or train ticket costs)

  • Parking Expenses

  • Copying and purchasing documents (including BMD)

  • Entry fees, equipment hire, and permits (photography, etc)

  • Printed reports in binders (Standard, Premium, and Deluxe)

I recommend that I initially carry out a set number of hours after which I'll provide you with a report so far and suggestions for further research opportunities.

Carrying out research in stages can help to keep costs in check and provides you with information as we go, rather than waiting until the end.

I invoice on a weekly basis as work is carried out -  payment expected upon receipt.  Payment methods accepted are bank transfer and cheque.
